Job Summary

We are looking for a Mid-Level Purchase and Sourcing Engineer with 2–5 years of experience to manage sourcing, procurement, and vendor development for mechanical, electronic, and packaging components. You will work closely with mechanical, electronics, and production teams to ensure the right components are sourced at the right cost, quality, and lead time to support product development and manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities:

Sourcing & Vendor Development:

  • Identify, evaluate, and onboard new suppliers/vendors for mechanical components (machined parts, sheet metal, plastics, castings), electronic components (PCBs, ICs, connectors, passives), and packaging materials
  • Conduct supplier audits and capability assessments covering quality systems, manufacturing processes, and financial stability
  • Develop and maintain a reliable vendor base with backup/alternate sources to mitigate supply risk
  • Negotiate pricing, payment terms, and contracts with suppliers to achieve cost targets without compromising quality
  • Build long-term strategic relationships with key suppliers and manage vendor performance scorecards

Procurement & Component Sourcing:

  • Source components based on engineering BOMs, ensuring specifications, tolerances, and certifications are met
  • Identify alternate/second-source components to avoid single-source dependency and mitigate obsolescence risk
  • Track component lifecycle status (EOL/NRND notices) and proactively plan for replacements
  • Obtain and evaluate quotations, compare technical and commercial offers, and recommend best-fit suppliers
  • Coordinate sample procurement for new component qualification and design validation

Cost & Commercial Management:

  • Drive cost reduction initiatives through supplier negotiation, alternate sourcing, and value engineering
  • Prepare cost comparisons, landed cost analysis, and should-cost models for key components/assemblies
  • Track currency fluctuations, tariffs, and material price trends that impact procurement costs
  • Support budgeting and cost forecasting for BOM-related expenses

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Work closely with mechanical and electronics design teams during the design phase to guide component/material selection based on availability, cost, and manufacturability (DFM/DFC input)
  • Coordinate with production/planning teams to ensure timely material availability and avoid line-down situations
  • Collaborate with quality teams on incoming inspection criteria, supplier corrective actions (SCAR), and non-conformance resolution
  • Support new product introduction (NPI) by ensuring procurement timelines align with the product development schedule

Documentation & Compliance:

  • Maintain accurate records of vendor agreements, pricing history, and approved vendor lists (AVL)
  • Ensure sourced components comply with relevant regulatory and product certifications (RoHS, REACH, UL, CE, etc.)
  • Track purchase orders, delivery schedules, and vendor compliance with agreed lead times
  • Manage import/export documentation and coordinate with logistics for on-time material delivery, where applicable

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Supply Chain, or related field
  • 2–5 years of hands-on experience in purchasing/sourcing for mechanical and/or electronic components, preferably in a hardware/manufacturing environment
  • Working knowledge of mechanical component types (machined, sheet metal, injection-molded parts) and electronic components (PCBs, ICs, passives, connectors)
  • Understanding of engineering drawings, GD&T, and component datasheets to evaluate supplier quotes accurately
  • Strong negotiation skills with a track record of achieving cost savings
  • Familiarity with ERP/procurement systems (ERPNext, SAP, or similar) for PO management and vendor tracking
  • Good understanding of import/export processes, Incoterms, and logistics coordination (if applicable to the role)
  • Strong analytical skills for cost comparison, should-costing, and vendor evaluation
  • Effective communicator, comfortable working cross-functionally with engineering, quality, and production teams

Preferred/Bonus Skills:

  • Experience sourcing components for electronics-heavy or IoT-based products
  • Familiarity with component obsolescence management and BOM lifecycle tracking
  • Exposure to supplier quality management (PPAP, SCAR, 8D reports)
  • Experience with international sourcing and vendor development in regions like China, Taiwan, or Southeast Asia
  • Knowledge of compliance standards (RoHS, REACH, UL, CE) relevant to sourced components
  • Experience supporting new product introduction (NPI) from a procurement standpoint

What We Offer:

  • Opportunity to directly influence product cost, quality, and supply chain reliability
  • Close collaboration with a multidisciplinary hardware and manufacturing team
